This summer Dash opted out of swim lessons and in to gym class. He loves, which is funny because although he IS handsome, charming, brilliant, witty, on and on and on...he is NOT athletic. (not even a teeny tiny bit as far as we can tell). The poor guy has always had challenges with motor skills, I mean, he didn't even walk until he was 15 months old AND that was with some physical therapy services to get his little motor planning under wraps. He was just content to sit and smile as a baby. Seriously, the boy was saying 4-5 word sentences, like carrying a conversation, but he just sat wherever I placed him. At the time I thought nothing of it. Come on, what momma wouldn't be blinded by love with a little person who just sits and chats?! Looking back, it is a little odd, but whatevs, we were so happy I'm pretty sure nothing could have really bothered us.
Anywho, its sort of been an area where Dash man has to work just a little bit harder than the average bear to keep up, and bless his pea-pickin heart, the boy does. This summer as I signed him up for gym class, I'll admit, I asked myself; am I literally signing him up for failure? Maybe yes, but for sure I would not be helping him by never facing the challenge. (Maa-jor brave momma points here, Lord knows, I REALLY just wanted to sign him up for a summer movie pass and call it good, just to be certain his ego remained large and in charge.)
And whatta-ya-know, turns out somewhere between crying to leave basketball camp and ONLY participating in snack time with flag football, the boy became an athlete! Ok, that may be a stretch, but check out these photos, he's actually holdin' his own...the proof is in the pudding people.
Way to go little gym class hero, you never fail to impress!
