how many degrees of separation?

when my husband and i were dating, i remember him telling me one night that he refuses to date mexican girls. (i should add that he is one half latino himself). i frowned, thinking that wasn't nice, or normal, and asked why. and with a very serious tone, and demeanor, he said, i've tried it. it is like making out with a cousin. and scarier, she very well could be a cousin somehow. i laughed so hard, at the critical nature of his concern, and also at how surprisingly true his words were. hahahaha. i still think its sorta silly.

well until last night...

as i snuggled in to watch teen mom on mtv (i know, its trash, but i do really like it). i could not get over the fact that the oh-so-in-love, living together, clearly intimate (i mean the show is about teen moms, duh) couple of tyler and caitlynn are also brother and sister. GROSS. so gross. ok, they are step siblings, but still. gross. if even for a second you are thinking, oh Linda its not that bad...pretend you just had your "brother's" baby. not that big of a deal? hmmmmm. i always thought it was goofy how mtv skated around this  little factoid. but in the latest episode when "dad", um not "tyler's dad" or "your/my/etc dad" but just equally referred to by both as "dad" was out of jail and could not see "mom" again, not "your/my/etc mom" was the issue, it was too much for this gal. i do not have a sibling and i always wanted to share in "sib talk" you know, mom, dad, without the preface of ownership. but nevea evea with my boyfriend! you see where i am coming from, right?! oh and ps they share a sibling! yes the mom and dad had another child, THEIR little brother...ie with the same two parents that the two lovers share. sure, in terms of blood relatives one could argue this is no biggie, but don't bother trying to convince this girl.
it is bananas.

oh and yes, i will continue to watch, but i may just have to fast forward a little more than usual from here on out.
